Is anyone working on the March goal?

Is anyone working on a goal this week? Dan is reading a book called, "Investing Without a Sliver Spoon". It describes how to invest directly with large companies and starting with small amounts of money.
I am reading "The 9 Steps to Financial Freedom". It''s a great book about budgeting and saving.
Hopefully this weekend we will finally fill the water barrels that have been sitting empty in our garage since we've moved!!

  1. last week was an insane week, so last night we sat down and picked some that we will be working on... but none are completed yet.

  2. We went through our 72 hour backpacks last night and made a list of things to change and add. We had hand sanitizer in Rons and it was all dried up, didn't think about that. Anyway our barrels also need to be changed but that will happen later in the year when we need something to water so it won't be a waste to empty these. I do have 5 full ones though. So we are working on it. One for this week is done.

  3. Steve and I have been working on them too. We did the 72 hour backpacks last week, and I still need a few more items to complete them. For this week our goal is the financial packet.

  4. Awesome, thanks for the response.
Just a side note about the financial packet - Dad disagreed (very much) about having that stuff in a 72 hour backpack. (But then again, he's 75 miles away from his right now.) He strongly suggests that stuff be in a waterproof/fireproof safe. I agree with that, but I don't think any of us girls have one, do you? The important thing is gathering all that info., documents, and papers, getting it all together and getting to it quickly in the case of a fire or whatever would make you leave your house. Having them in my 72 hr. backpack was just my convenient spot to remember. Things like savings bonds can't be replaced.

  5. I do have a fire proof safe that has a lot of my important papers in it. It's probably a good idea to keep it in a safe box and then make copies, just for proof.

  6. I got a fire proof safe for Christmas this year and I have been putting important info in it. I will work on my financial packet next week to finish it. I made a spread sheet with all of our info like cc's with phone numbers and important numbers also. I may print that for my 72 hour back pack and another for the safe.

  7. We are working on our goal also. We are maybe going home next weekend so then we can get our 72 hour kits and get them updated. We will change the water this summer in our barrels down stairs at home. But dad just purchased 4 cases of bottled water to add to our storage. He is going to update our car emergency kits too. Dad is constantly buying new items for our food storage. Our little storage space in the apt in full of his food storage. I went online and read all I could fine on Suze Orman's book. It has always been hard for us to have a budget because we have never had a fixed income, so we'll have to work on that one. Anyway that is my report for now.

  8. Okay, I had no idea you guys had safes. Sally, do you have one?
We don't, but we have a one level house with a big window in every room. Most of our stuff is more easily accessible than the rest of yours.

  10. NOOO, I'll grab it in my 72 hr. kit on my way out one of the windows! Actually they'll be just inside the garage door. And I meant important stuff that all should be together in one easy location anyway. I'm not going back in a burning house to get my favorite, black leather coat or anything.
