February's Goal - hmmm what could it be?

So due to the fact that this month is February the month of Love and my anniversary! My goal will be taken from Elder Henry B. Eyring's last conference talk on page 70. So I guess that is a good start - read the talk.
I would like to add a few lines from his talk that stuck out to me.
1. "the message of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ is that we can and must expect to become better as long as we live"
2.Love is the motivating principle by which the Lord leads us along the way towards becoming like Him, our perfect example. Our way of life, hour by hour, must be filled with the love of God and love for others.
3."That is because the greatest joys and the greatest sorrows we experience are in family relationships. The joys come from putting the welfare of others about our own. That is what love is. And the sorrow comes primarily from selfishness, which is the absence of love."
4. " a man and a woman are to make sacred covenants that they will put the welfare and happiness of the OTHER at the center of their lives"
so that leads me to my goal
5."Pray for the love which allows you to see the good in your companion. Pray for the love that makes weaknesses and mistakes seem small. Pray for the love to make your companion's joy your own. Pray for the love to want to lessen the load and soften the sorrows of your companion" -everyday and I would add to pray for all those things about each other as a family so when the time comes we will have no "empty chairs in the world to come"
This should be a goal I don't have to help you with but interested to see how it effects our marriages in one month and our relationships as an extended family.
As the final part since it is on love and and showing that love - pay your donation to the Haiti fund as asked today in church by our first presidency.
Happy Loving to everyone this month!

January Goal

Ok due to a never ending list of trials we have had the past year here is one more. My computer the PC went out and so I am using Ron's mac which I can not scan my names on but I do have names and I did enter my info in PAF and start to learn the new family search program. We will be doing the temple work for Bertha Christine Jensen and Christian Christiansen as soon as we can. I'm actually not sure if we can do them since there was a problem with her dates and parents that we were trying to figure out. So I wanted to talk with Ron's cousin who has been doing lots of work on his line first. Anyway it was fun and not as scary as I thought it would be at the beginning of the month when I read it. Thanks Mom for the nudge towards doing our Family History. It was fun and I am really excited to do these 2 names.

Riskedahl Family REUNION!

Okay, after talking with everyone about a billion times I think we should finalize this reunion plan. Nobody seemed to have a strong opinion for one specific date so I'm suggesting doing the temple work the last weekend in July. Mom thought that we could do baptisms, confirmations, and maybe initiaries on Friday night, then do endowments and sealings on Saturday morning (due to Leesa needing to nurse and take care of her new babe).

Mom also wanted to do Christmas in July so that we wouldn't have to travel there in subzero temperatures again. I thought we could do Christmasy stuff either Friday morning or Saturday afternoon and maybe have a big extended family gathering on Sunday.

If anyone has any ideas/suggestions lets hear them. We all need to plan our schedules and take time off, so if there's and problems, spill them now! I'm SO excited to get together with all of you and be able to do so much temple work for our relatives. I think it will be a wonderful and spiritual experience and I'm excited to see everyone again. Love you all!

January Goal-Complete (well mostly)

Well we finally finished our January goal. This weekend we were able to go to the Winter Quarters Temple and do the baptisms, confirmation, and initiatories on these three family names. It was a wonderful experiences, especially because I was able to do the process from the beginning.
At the beginning of January I was a bit nervous about doing this process, but I want to thank mom for the wonderful goal and for all that I was able to learn. I can definetely see how one becomes "addicted" to geneology. I hope everyone else was able to have a good experience as well.

The Other Half of Jones Jan. Goal

So we got names ready for the temple and got their B and C done, but that was only half of the goal. Dan has done a lot on PAF with his mother, however, it seems to be missing. We think it was done on the lap top that suddenly died on us. We haven't retrieved anything from it.
I started a new PAF file on our current computer. Mom's family tree binder that she gave us a while back has been a great source of information. There are some differences within the book on certain people, so it will be interesting to examine them more closely.
It's been fun to add each new generation and see the dates get further and further back in time. I'm planning on re-adding Dan's side soon. We have a genealogy binder for both his mom and dad's sides of the family.
I'm glad for this challenge and the boost to get me to learn PAF. I have also learned the value in the statement "For everything there is a time and a season." My home and children have been neglected this week. Once you start looking through names and added them you just don't want to quit! It is addicting, but for right now in my life with little kids it's not a good addiction. Someday it will be a good one and we can all pick up where Mom leaves off for us! Good job Mom. I commend you for all your time and efforts in searching out pretty much everything done in our family tree. I imagine all the ancestors are watching you and are jumping for joy that you were in their posterity ... or at least married to it!

January goal

After lots of mom's help, I found two people that I can do something for, unfortunately they are both women, so Jason didn't get to participate yet, but he can when we do the sealing to parents for the baby.

I have not totally completed the goal yet, but it is in progress. I still need to put in a couple more generations on PAF, and I need to do more than just the baptisms on the two names I printed off, I'm hoping to do the initiatory on Saturday, and the next time I get to the temple to do a session I'll try to quickly fit in the sealing to parents. But it is coming along! And I have learned so much about it with just the little I have done... and even inspired my neighbor to learn how to do it too! Thanks mom for your help and your example!

Jones January Goal Complete

I just got back from the Albuquerque Temple and completed the Baptisms and Confirmations for four of my family members. This was the first time I actually printed off names. The youth in my ward had a temple trip today so I did my best to find some names and do their work. This could not have been done without the help and patience of Leesa. I haven't been home much due to work and church callings...I missed family dinner three times this week!!! Anyway, thanks for giving the challenge / goal. These names wouldn't have been done today without it.

Mom's January Goal

I am pleased to announce that I have completed most of mother's goal for January. I have finally finished six generations (including myself and my parents) on PAF and it took FOREVER! It was fun and exciting to see all of the ancestors on both mine and Steve's sides and learn a bit about them. I have found some names to do the temple work for and have actually printed them off. All I need to do now is actually go to the temple and do the work. It really has been a great experience and I've learned a lot and am WAY more excited to do family history work. Thanks mom for all your help and patience. I'll finish my report after I go to the temple on the 30th.
