Jill's August Goal Report

For this goal I chose the book "The Great Constitution: A book for young Americans." I didn't have time to go to the library early in the month so I just chose one that we already had. To be truly honest, it was a most boring book. It took me until today to finish it and there was only 128 pages! But, nonetheless, it's finished and I fulfilled the goal. The book talks about the great men who helped write the Constitution for our great Nation. I didn't remember, (or realize) that even though Independence Day was first in 1776 our country didn't have a constitution until 1788. It took many months and many great men to write the constitution and to come up with a government that everyone could approve of. It said a new nation had never been 'made' before and they thanked God for governing the affairs of men. Our nation was truly guided by the hand of God and I like how it acknowledged his hand in the making of the United States. Another part I liked in the book was when the author talked about the long debates the men had in forming the Constitution. They said a good debater "is not too long winded, lets others have their turn, doesn't let his sense of self-importance run away with him, he is patient, courteous, doesn't call names or make nasty comments about the other debators. I liked this paragraph because it reminded me how different politics are today. It was be amazing if our government leaders could talk this way with each other. We are greatly blessed for the men who helped our country in the beginning and I'm grateful to remember those who fought and sacrificed much for the United States.
